The quest for direct contact

So much of human life begins to feel like contact with maps of maps of maps.

You would rather produce one real note emerging from direct contact with the phenomenon than flawlessly reproduce inherited forms without inner participation.

The danger is becoming mechanically inhabited by dead structure.

A person can become astonishingly skillful at reproducing civilization’s memory while never entering the Living generative source from which those forms arose. 

Because representation and reality belong to fundamentally different orders.

A child seeing the ocean for the first time may undergo something greater than a scholar analyzing ten thousand paintings of oceans.

Because the event is not informational.

It is existential contact.
Cultural activities = people endlessly refining representations while rarely touching source.
Exactly like Plato's cave, many orders removed from source and into representation.

It is curated permanence extracted from flux.

Ego becomes: curated continuity.
